Jobs boost as planning consent is granted for M27 Junction 9 scheme
13th June 2017
Planners have given their consent for a new industrial development close to the M27 that will bring jobs and investment to the Fareham area.
Fareham Borough Council has approved the plans for a self-contained 50,000 sq ft industrial/warehouse unit at the two-acre site off Cartwright Drive, Segensworth – just off Junction 9 of the M27. The scheme will be known as “J9 South.
Consent comes after the site was secured by Marick Real Estate, advised by the south coast offices of commercial property specialists Lambert Smith Hampton.
The unit will include ancillary offices, car parking, service yard, a dock and level loading constructed to an eaves height of 10 metres.
Both LSH and their joint agents Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL) are in discussions with a number of businesses which have requirements in the area due to a lack of supply of new, high-quality industrial space.
It is anticipated that the unit will be available to occupy by the summer of 2018, with its new occupiers joining neighbours including Estee Lauder, Batleys Cash & Carry, Gestamp and Royal Mail.
Jerry Vigus, Director of Capital Markets and Industrial & Logistics at LSH South Coast, said: “This is a major milestone for a project which will result in significant investment in the region and will go some way towards meeting the demand for space we are seeing in the mid-box market.
“We have already experienced a high level of interest in this site due to its strategic location and the quality of the accommodation that will be on offer.”
The land at Segensworth was secured by Marick Real Estate from Raymarine, which had deemed it surplus to requirements. The Southampton office of JLL acted for Raymarine.
Mike Forster, Managing Director of Development at Marick Real Estate, said: “We are delighted to have planning consent confirmed, having worked on securing this key site for some time. We are now looking forward to completing the scheme and to welcoming its new occupier as soon as possible.”
