In competition, Marick was selected by Cambridge City Council as the Developer to redevelop the Park Street multi-storey car park in the city centre.
The scheme comprised the deconstruction of the existing car park, creation of a new triple level basement car park (225 car spaces) with electric charging and cycling provision (270 spaces), a publicly accessible courtyard linking Jordan Yard to Park Street; with ecological measures including a bee hotel, planting and artwork and a five storey 229 room premium (4*) Aparthotel, which includes a gym, lounge and café. Staycity is the aparthotel operator.
Marick, Cambridge City Council and Staycity worked closely in developing the scheme together. Marick secured full Planning Consent in December 2019, and Section 73 consent was secured in November 2020 to remove gas from the scheme, creating an ‘all electric building’.
The site was in a challenging and sensitive location, requiring a number of party wall awards, oversailing licences, buildover agreements and Highways AIPs. There were extensive Archaeology and temporary works/engineering requirements; and very tight logistics within sensitive residential constraints in a Conservation Area, where good communications and stakeholder management was key.
Gilbert Ash were the appointed main contractor to deliver the scheme. Sectional Completion was achieved in 2024 for the basement car park, with Practical Completion for the Aparthotel achieved in 2025.
