Cambridge – Park Street
- Marick Management Limited (A Marick Real Estate company)
- Developer, Development Manager, Project Management, Employer’s Agent, Quantity Surveying
- £53m
In competition, Marick was selected by Cambridge City Council as the Developer to redevelop the Park Street multi-storey car park in the city centre.
The scheme comprises the deconstruction of the existing car park, creation of a new triple level basement car park (225 car spaces) with electric charging and cycling provision (270 spaces), a publicly accessible courtyard linking Jordan Yard to Park Street; with ecological measures including a bee hotel, planting and artwork and a five storey 229 room premium (4*) Aparthotel, which includes a gym, lounge and café. Staycity is the aparthotel operator.
Marick, Cambridge City Council and Staycity have worked very closely since early 2019 in developing this scheme together. Marick secured full Planning Consent in December 2019, and Section 73 consent was secured in November 2020 to remove gas from the scheme, creating an ‘all electric building’.
The site is in a challenging and sensitive location, requiring party wall awards, oversailing licences, Buildover agreements and Highways AIPs. There are an extensive Archaeology and temporary works/ engineering requirements; and very tight logistics within sensitive residential constraints in a Conservation Area, where good communications and stakeholder management is key.
Marick has brought on Gilbert Ash as its construction partner to deliver the scheme. The car park works are scheduled to be completed August 2024 and the Aparthotel and overall completion March 2025.
